Pearly Whites

My baby is teething. Her gums are so red and swollen. Last night she woke up several times shaking and crying. I saw her top tooth poke through the gums last week, but then it disappeared again. I believe we get our teeth when we are babies so that we can't remember the pain. It looks so painful. She is handling the pain like a champ, but I wish there was something more I could do to comfort her.

How do you help your infant deal with teething pain?

  1. Hylands Teething Tablets are the absolute best things ever. CANNOT live with out them. You can get them at Target, or any health food store. I don't shop at walmart, but someone told me you can get them there too.

  2. I used the teething tablets Laurie mentioned above, but I could never really tell if they made a difference. I gave Sara Motrin before bed most nights while she was teething. It seemed to be the only thing that worked. Check online for the correct dosage for your baby based on how much they weight.

Sara started teething at 4 months and her 2 first teeth popped through by 6 months. I would give her small peices of ice to chew on and that seemed to help more than a cold teething ring she didn't like to hold.

She has all her teeth now, but is working on her 2 year molars. She seems to be handling them better than the smaller ones, for now.

  3. We are doing teething at our house too and it stinks! I have tried the tablets and like Karen don't know it they help my little guy. He likes to eat them though :) Someone in our ward said that the tablets worked wonders for their 1st kid but didn't help the 2nd at all. So I think it just depends on the kid. Hopefully they work because they are easy. I have also done baby orajel (in the baby isle, not by the pharmacy). It is a numbing cream. It doesn't taste great and tingles a little (I tried it to see what it was like after he obviously didn't love it the first time) :) but it isn't bad. You just have to hold them down to try to get it on their gums only otherwise their whole mouth is numb. I don't know if I would use it during the day (for that reason). I have only done it at night to help with sleep. Maybe naps would work too.
