The toilet's clogged again!

Sometimes I feel like my life is all about poop! I have 3 small children, ages 5, 2, and 9 months. On a good day, I change 4 or 5 stinky diapers and help my oldest with her bowel issues, for which we are seeing a specialist. She has been constipated since birth, so poop - or the lack thereof - has been a topic in our home for quite awhile.

I'm getting carried away; I don't want to make this post all about poop. My point is that right now my life is filled with poop, documenting my 5-year-old's bowel movements, making sure she gets her daily laxatives, feeding her the right kinds of food at the right times, increasing her fiber intake, and changing the other kids' stinky diapers several times a day.

I'll be honest, all of this poop stuff really stinks (ha ha). But I have learned a simple but important lesson: the best way to deal with "stinky" kid situations is to remember that it will eventually end or change for the better. Kids (and moms) keep growing, changing, and learning. Yes, babies do learn how to sleep through the night, and toddlers get older and start eating better. And eventually I won't be cleaning out dirty underpants.

So moms, here's a request. Share a "stinky" situation you were going through or are dealing with right now. How did you get through it, and what did you learn?

  1. That is so funny because I feel like my life has been all about poop lately! My 9 mo. old recently started drinking formula and was constantly constipated...so I started buying spring water to mix with the formula instead of tap water (yeah, I don't even drink tap water, so why was I giving it to my baby?:)). So ever since then is never constipated and quite regular. The other day I was at a fabric store and was holding my baby. I looked down to see a huge, runny clump of poop mulitplying out of my baby's shorts onto my shirt! They had no bathroom and I ran outside onto the side walk trying desperately to get what I could off with wet wipes. I used a diaper for his "pillow" since we were on the cement and while I was trying to deal with the poop that was everywhere he starts digging into the dirt from the decorative garden/bush area in front of the store and starts putting it in his mouth. My hands are all poopy so I can't even stop him! I had to go to the store next door to use the bathroom and that was a little humiliating because if he didn't happen to see the gigantic poop stain on the front of my shirt, I'm sure everyone could smell it! ha ha ha I guess these times remind us that comedy is just tragedy plus time!

  2. Oh how our lives all too often revolve around poop. My first two were easy to potty train. I was spoiled. My 3rd has issues with pooping. She pees just fine in the potty, but for some reason I will never understand the poop leaving her body is like a piece of her being cast down into a watery oblivion. So...She hides in the pantry and she poops in her panties EVERY time. I refuse to put a potty chair in the pantry because I seriously doubt grabbing a potato from Karigan's water closet would ever be the same.

  3. I'm glad that I'm not the only mom with kids that have unique pooping situations. It's great to read the other stories and just laugh. I'm not alone.
